Eaton’s Fairytale Vignettes

On display from November 16, 2013 – January 5, 2014 at the Children’s Museum.

Explore a Winnipeg holiday tradition for all generations!

The Children’s Museum is pleased to be the home of the last original Eaton’s Fairytale Vignette Display from the ninth floor annex of the Eaton’s downtown store – fully restored and open to the public for a limited time only.

From mid-November until mid-January, visitors of all ages will be delighted by the fifteen fun, fairytale vignettes that make up this classic favourite including Cinderella, Humpty Dumpty, Three Blind Mice and more.

Free with museum admission.

UNWRAP WRAPPED WITH YOUR FAMILY THIS DECEMBER

Egypt is taking centre stage at the Manitoba Museum right now. During the month of December, you can experience Wrapped: The Mummy of Pesed with your whole family. There will be mummification demonstrations, you can learn to write your name in hieroglyphs or take part in a fun-filled scavenger hunt. And of course, you won’t want to miss the first real Egyptian mummy in Winnipeg in 45 years!

Culture Days raises the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities. With the support of volunteer groups at the national, provincial and local levels, hundreds of thousands of artists, cultural workers, organizations and groups, volunteers and supporters self-mobilize to host free participatory public activities that take place in hundreds of cities and towns throughout the country over the last weekend of September each year.

Gingerbread HouseThe holidays are upon us! And a long time holiday tradition is back again this year: The Festival of Trees and Lights has started once again!

Come down to the Manitoba Hydro Building and join us in the festivities. The City of Winnipeg Museums Board is proud to be a sponsor of this 25 year holiday tradition. We will be participating in a gingerbread house exhibition. Come see your favorite Winnipeg museum, in gingerbread form!

Heritage Winnipeg is holding an inaugural gala and dance dinner on the evening of Friday, September 27th, 2013 to honour the centennial anniversary of the Fort Garry Hotel and commemorate the significant role that the Fort Garry has played in the cultural and social life in Winnipeg over the last century.

Due to limited dinner seating, "Speak Easy" Dance and Dessert only tickets ($75) will be offered in addition to Full Evening tickets ($200). The City of Winnipeg Museums Board has announced that, as part of its sponsorship of the Gingerbread Village at the forthcoming 25th Annual Festival of Trees and Lights, each of its member museums, including the Manitoba Historical Society’s Dalnavert Museum, will be rendered in gingerbread. Each gingerbread museum measures 18 inches by 18 inches

with an additional landscape around it, with construction taking in excess of 100 work hours. Five schools have taken part in the program: Red River College, Winnipeg Technical College, Kildonan-East Collegiate, Tec Voc High School, and Miles Macdonell Collegiate.

Railway Days - Saturday and Sunday September 21st and 22nd from 10:00 AM till 4:00 PM at the Winnipeg Railway Museum

The event will feature industry, travel, hobby and rail heritage displays and will be located on tracks 1 & 2 of Winnipeg’s historic Union Station.

The history of Winnipeg is inextricably tied to the growth of trade, commerce, and of prosperity of it's early residents. Come join the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce on March 8th, 2013, when they celebrate their 140th Anniversary.
